Gurney Drive is popular for high-end shopping malls, serviced apartments and restaurants. During my first visit to Gurney Drive, I explored Gurney Paragon and Gurney Plaza. If I plan to visit Penang next time, I will definitely stay near Gurney Drive.
A number of high-end 5-Star Hotels are located on Gurney Drive offering amazing views of the ocean overlooking Butterworth.
I parked my car outside the Gurney Plaza not realizing that there was paid parking till 10 pm. When I walked out of the shopping malls, my car we being loaded on the tow truck. I was lucky to make it on time and got away with paying RM 60 fine.
Gurney drive also hosts food stalls at nighttime where you can try local delicacies at a very reasonable price. With
With waterfront views and a coastal walk with some amazing views, Gurney Drive attracts large over the weekends. The area is equally popular with local crowds as well as tourists.
Gurney Paragon has a number of western-styled cafes and chains including TGI Fridays. I enjoyed dinner and coffee at the Malls and explored Gurney Plaza for some clothes. Gurney Plaza has a number of branded outlets and local chains as well.
The street food market is open till midnight and you can taste a number of local seafood delights and noodle dishes.
If you are planning to visit Penang, I recommend staying at Gurney Drive. The hotels facing the waterfront have amazing skyline views all the way to Butterworth.
